Dog License
Juneau County requires all dogs 5 months of age and older during the calendar year to be licensed prior to March 1st. Dog licensing is done through the Juneau County Clerk's office.

(a)Except as provided in Wis. Stats. § 174.054, every owner of a dog more than five months of age on January 1 of each year or five months of age within the license year shall annually or on or before the dog becomes five months of age pay the dog license fee of this chapter and obtain a dog license. The license year commences on January 1 and ends on the following December 31. Proof that the dog is vaccinated currently against rabies shall be presented at the time of licensing to the city, village or town treasurer issuing a license under Wis. Stats. §§ 174.05 and 174.07, who shall prepare the report to the county clerk prescribed by Wis. Stats. § 174.08.
(b)A license shall be required for each dog at the indicated license fee, which shall be for one year, unless otherwise indicated.
(1)Spayed females and neutered males: $12.00.
(2)Unaltered dogs: $15.00.
(c)Late penalty. A late penalty of $15.00 shall be required for all dog licenses purchased after April 1, except licenses for newly acquired dogs or dogs which reach the age of five months after April 1.
About licensing:
- All dogs five months or older located within Juneau County must be licensed.
- Licenses are valid January 1 thru December 31 of each year.
- Licenses must be renewed annually by April 1, failure to do so results in a $5.00 penalty to the licensing fee.
- Licenses are only issued for dogs with current rabies vaccinations. If your dog is unable to vaccinate, please contact the Juneau County Clerk.
- Altered (spayed / neutered) dogs are eligible for a reduced rate on the license fee.
- If you have two or more dogs, you may purchase a Multiple Dog License. To do so, select one Multiple Dog License item at $35.00 for a first dog and a sufficient number of Mulitple Dog License, 3-12 for the remainder. To license more than twelve dogs, please contact the Juneau County Clerk.
- Service dogs for the seeing-impaired are eligible for a license at no cost. Please apply in person with the Juneau County Clerk.
- Purchased licenses are non-refundable.
- Licenses are not transferable from one dog to another.
- Tags must be worn by dogs at all times.
